What is ELT?
Endovenous laser treatment (ELT, or sometimes referred to as EVLT) requires no hospitalization and no complicated surgery and it is a quick, minimally invasive laser treatment.
The whole entire procedure from beginning to end takes about one hour and there is very little to no pain .Most insurance plans and Medicare covers treating varicose veins with endovenous laser treatment .That’s the another advantage of advanced technology in ELT
How does it work ?
In ELT procedure, under ultrasound guidance a a small optic fiber is inserted through a needle into the varicose vein. Then slowly optic fiber is removed from vein after laser is activated , it heats and closes the vein .After the vein is closed, the blood circulation is naturally re-routed through other healthy veins. After sometime, the closed veins are absorbed by the body .
We explain patients that ELT cannot treat veins that are too small , too twisted, or too close to the surface of the skin. And so that ELT patient will require a sclerotherapy treatment in conjunction with ELT to treat smaller veins as well .
In Sclerotherapy usually a solutions is injected in your varicose or spider veins as a part of treatment. This causes veins to seal off .The vein the closes down over the time is absorbed by the body .
Our physicians also use ultrasound guided sclerotherapy for larger varicose veins.
with the help of ultrasound physicians can see a live view of your veins in to the monitor that ensures them that injecting sclerosant into precise location would result into best treatment for that particular vein.
On the other hand, for spider veins or other small veins that are closer to the surface of skin an ultrasound guidance is usually not necessary. And these kind of veins are treated by our experts by sclerotherapy. This treatment sessions is usually 15 to 20 minutes long and it will consist of microinjections.
After veins are treated and closed the blood circulation naturally re-route through other healthy veins. And over the time treated vein is absorbed by the body.Normal blood flow continues through healthy veins naturally instead of abnormal veins.
Synergy Vein Clinic primarily uses two solutions during sclerotherapy:Sodium Tetradecyl Sulphate(STS) and Asclera that are used during sclerotherapy for treatment of veins in the leg.
Both of these solutions are FDA approved.During your visit Physician will discuss this with you in detail looking at specific condition that you have .
